Junior Annual Awards Night 2017

Penzance Tennis Club held their 5th Junior Awards Evening at the weekend. The coaching team and the junior committee were delighted to see an even bigger turn out this year, with many families coming along to celebrate another successful year of tennis at the club. Before the Awards Ceremony began thanks was given to all the parents, who are committed to bringing their children to the club each week and to the Tennis Leaders, most of whom are teenagers. Acting Head Coach, Robert Hepworth, commented “Penzance Tennis Club is very fortunate to have such an abundance of great Tennis Leaders who give their time and support to the juniors and coaches, and we are delighted that a number of them will soon be taking their Level 1, LTA Coaching Qualification”. Awards were given to the following team players: Aegon Team: Each year the Penzance Mini Tennis players battle it out against other clubs in the County. The club maintains a fantastic track record, having won all the team events over the last few years. Green Event – Joe Keriama, Nia Golding, Noah Jackson, Ethan Graham Orange Event – Jake Moore, Jacob Allan, Emma Brown, Archie Stirling. Red Event – Freddie Millard, Oscar Ward, Camilla Benny, Amelia Bottrell County Team Players: Ellyn Calveley, Joe Williams, Zoe Body, Will Stirling, Jake Moore, Jacob Allan Special Individual Awards: Dedication to Tennis Award – Jacob Savage Tennis Assistant Award – Adrian Bottrell Fair Play Award – Zoe Body Most Improved Player – Kelly Lang Junior Player of the Year – Stan Roynon Ellie Williams Award – Amelia Bottrell “We are very proud of all our juniors who have worked hard throughout the year. Farewell Birte and welcome to Kathy Oxenham, our new face in the office!

On Friday 10th November we say a fond farewell to Birte Hosken, who has run our office with great efficiency and passion over the last few years. Birte will still be a member of our club and our teams and will be focusing on writing her second novel, following on from the success of her first, Petroc’s Church. Fantastic finals day for Junior Club Championships

The Junior Club Championships was run over a week commencing on Monday 23rd October and concluding in a fantastic finals day on Saturday 28th October. A good entry saw multiple events running and some superb tennis throughout the week. The spectators on finals day were treated to several great games including mini Green, Orange and Red and under 16s and under 18s categories.
