Volunteer of the Year once again goes to Penzance Tennis Club!

At the recent Tennis Cornwall AGM, Penzance Tennis Club Chair Trevor Newborn, was declared the winner of the Cornwall LTA’s ‘Volunteer of the Year Award 2018’. Tennis Cornwall Chair Sue Eames, who presented the Award said:

“Trevor has worked tirelessly for Penzance Tennis Club for well over 15 years, first in the role of Treasurer and for the last 8 years, as Chair. He was the driving force behind obtaining lottery funding for the new clubhouse, providing a fantastic facility that has since attracted a significant number of new players. He has also been instrumental in fund raising for the Penzance Tennis Outreach Programme, which has now delivered free tennis to over 1000 children in the local community! More recently he has overcome issues to install new floodlights on the rear tarmac courts as well as oversee the resurfacing on these courts, plus the rejuvenation of the four main artificial grass courts. He has even found time to help a nearby club with their application for floodlights!”

It doesn’t stop there as Trevor and the fund raising committee now have the huge task of raising funds to completely resurface the four artificial grass courts.

Congratulations Trevor!
