Return to restricted play from Wednesday 13th May

Message from our Chairman – COVID 19

To all members of Penzance Tennis Club

12/05/2020
I just thought I would share with you the latest guidance from the “LTA Covid 19 Latest Advice” that we are, and will be, following unreservedly at our Club as follows:

Playing Tennis during Lockdown
LTA UPDATE* (11/05/20)
The below provides an update following the Prime Minister’s statement on Sunday 10 May:

Return to Restricted Play

Following further clarifications we have received from Government, tennis activity in England will be able to take place outdoors from Wednesday 13th May with singles play only (you can play singles against one other who may be from another household), other than where players are all from the same household in which case they can play doubles.

We are finalising full guidance for players, coaches and venues and aim to share this as soon as possible.

*UPDATE* (10/05/20)
We are continuing to work with Government on the relevant clarifications required to ensure further advice is provided to the tennis community as soon as possible and in advance of Wednesday (13 May), when tennis will be playable in England between members of the same household.

Resumption of Tennis Activity
We know how important it is to keep people active, and the particular role tennis can have in the physical and mental wellbeing of those that play it. Our aim is therefore for tennis activity to return as soon as is possible in a way that is both safe and appropriate based on Government advice.
Whilst we understand that tennis venues, coaches and players are keen to
prepare for the resumption of tennis activity, we will share the guidance that we are discussing with Government once they have published how the
phased lifting of current restrictions will take place. This will provide a single, clear set of guidelines for everyone involved with tennis in Britain to ensure safe activity in line with the wider Government advice.”

Obviously things are changing very fast, meanwhile please bear with us as we receive further guidelines and have time to put them in place as necessary.

From today 12/05/20 the court booking system is available for members booking. However please note Courts 1-4 will not be available Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays between 8-9am for essential court maintenance, sweeping, etc., for your safety. Please do not access these courts during this time. In addition Junior priority between 4-6pm Monday to Friday is
reinstated.

Access to the tennis courts is via Penlee Park, and through the gate to courts 1 to 4. If the gate is locked, the code for the padlock is available to members via email.

The Clubhouse remains completely closed.

We have received some help from the government and Cornwall Council which has been welcomed.

I thank all of you that have already paid their subscriptions and those that even this week are continuing to pay subscriptions and support the club, very much appreciated. Obviously as time goes on we will be considering subscriptions and options etc., to adjust for the missed access to courts as and when we know more.

Remember in addition to subscription renewals you are able to make donations to the club, at any time, and if you are a UK taxpayer we can claim gift aid from HMRC, which increases your donation by an extra 25%, at no additional cost to you. Further info and to donate click here gift aid .
Remember you can pay your subscription renewals
https://penzancetennisclub.co.uk/membership/ via bank transfer, standing order, or by depositing a completed renewal form and cheque in the clubhouse postbox or by post.

Please use the normal club email info@penzancetennisclub.co.uk if you have any questions. We will keep you informed of developments as time goes on.

Meanwhile I’m sure we all are elated to see the courts back in action, following strict Government and LTA guidelines of course!
