Great turnout for New Year’s Day Tournament

After heavy showers overnight and early morning, there was doubt whether the New Year’s Day Tournament should go ahead, but 26 hardy members turned up ready to have some fun and burn off some of those Christmas calories! Several players worked hard to sweep the water off the courts, and then the sun came out to help to dry them a little.

The first twenty players to arrive went on court and played for about 25 minutes in a timed round, leaving six players to sit out. Six rounds were played by 3pm, but everyone had to sit out at least once, with just four players being unlucky enough to sit out twice.

Scores were averaged to make it fair, and there was a clear winner in the end, so congratulations to Sam Wardman, who won with an average score of 6. Dave Newberry was runner up, with an average of 5.4, with Hugh Joseph third with 5.25.

Special thanks goes to Tricia Smith for running the tournament so successfully. We also raised £120 towards the court replacement fund”

Great entry for Over 50s Tournament

The weather stayed kind for our Over 50s tournament today. A good entry saw all 5 courts being used and unusually the male entry of 13 was almost double that of the ladies entry of 7 (due to illness and injury 2 ladies had to withdraw on the day).

After some excellent play the top scoring man, David Reynolds was partnered with the second placed lady, Suzie Sinclair (who drew on points with Jenny Turner but won her finals place on the toss of a coin!). They took on 2nd place Brett Dye and 1st place Elaine Bassett in the final.

The watching spectators were treated to some fantastic rallies and the victors were Suzie Sinclair and David Reynolds winning by 6 games to 2.

Thanks go to Lis Jenkin and Brenda Charlton who ran the tournament.

Penzance Ladies D win West Division League!

Penzance D has had their best result ever finishing at the top of the league by some margin. They won 10 games, drew 1 and lost 1 scoring 97 points. Their nearest rivals were 2nd place Redruth B on 82 points and Truro C on 75 points. Year on year the team has made real progress with all players improving their games considerably.

Ladies D Team

The core team were (l-r) Suzie Sinclair, Sam Wardman (captain), Elaine Bassett and Dawn Roberts. They would also like to thank other players that filled in for the team – Victoria Nash, Elaine Trethowan, Jenny Turner and Sara Allison
