NEW – summer doubles ladder – sign up now!
NEW – summer doubles ladder! Sign up now!
Due to the cancellation of the Summer Team League Competition we’re considering running a Summer Doubles League for members. The league would run for 12 weeks and follow a similar format to our popular Winter Singles League. You will be scheduled an opponent every week and you will move up or down the ladder depending upon your results. It will be open to all adult members so men’s pairs, mixed pairs and women’s pairs will be playing against each other. It will cost £10 per player (i.e £20 per pair). You can only enter once.
If this is something you would be interested in please email ian.vidgen@hotmail.co.uk. We will only run this event if we have enough interest from the members. The deadline for expressions of interest is Sunday 21st June.
This will be great fun so sign up ASAP and let Ian know before Sunday!

To all Members
Following the Government’s announcement and unequivocal instruction (Monday 23 March) it is with heavy heart that I have to inform you that Penzance Tennis Club Courts and Clubhouse are closed forthwith.

COVID 19 – Message from our Chairman
Since the
Government’s statement on Monday 16th March, we have reviewed the
Clubs activities, and are following Government and LTA guidelines and advice.
First
Service Cafe will severely restrict its operations with immediate effect. It
will remain open for the present but only for Teas, Coffees, Soft Drinks and
light refreshments.
The bar
will be closed this Wed/Thurs/Fri evenings18th – 20th
March. After which openings will be further reviewed.
Coaching
will continue for the present time but all Tournaments and large gatherings for
the time being are suspended.
Previously planned
social events are all postponed and will not take place, we hope to re-schedule
them. These are The Race Night 4 April, the Quiz Night 18 April and the Spring
Fayre 2 May. However, the 50/50 Club
will still start on 1 April with all entries to be at the tennis club by 31
March, and maybe YOU will be the first winner.
If you want to enter and can’t get to the tennis club, you can mail your
cheque to the club, or contact Tricia Smith on 01736 367087, or email triciasmith39@hotmail.com.
The
Clubhouse and courts will remain open, with cleaning and maintenance enhanced
as per advice provided each day.
It is
currently the intention to keep the clubhouse and courts open for as long as
possible, however this could change at any time. We may have to close the clubhouse
completely, but hopefully the courts will remain useable for the duration, but
even that may change
The
situation will be monitored regularly in view of changing circumstances. We
hope to reopen fully in due course but that could be many months away.
Thank
you for your understanding at this difficult time.

Hat-trick for Holly at Club Championships
The club championships took place over the last two weeks with the finals taking place on Saturday 28th September and Thursday 3rd October. There were five events starting with a full day of play on Sunday 22nd September for the mixed doubles. This is always a popular event with a large entry and four groups played everyone in their table (7 games) and the winners of each group then played the semi finals. The rest of the events were played out throughout the week. Some play was hampered by heavy rain including the finals day which meant that the final event, the mixed doubles, had to be played on Thursday 3rd October. Despite more heavy rain on that day everyone played on despite getting soaked!
It was a great week and spectators were treated to some superb tennis throughout the tournament and despite the inclement weather on both finals days the tennis was thrilling to watch with some fantastic rallies.
Well done to everyone who took part with a particular well done to Holly Drew for her hat-trick!
The results:
Men’s Singles
Cladio Domizi beat Dave Forrest 6-1, 6-4
Ladies Singles
Holly Drew beat Zoe Body 6-2, 6-1
Ladies Doubles
Holly Drew and Sarah Arnold beat Helena Luke and Jackie Rice 6-0, 6-0
Men’s Doubles
Dave Forrest and Sam Newborn beat Claudio Domizi and Ross Jasper 6-2, 7-6
Mixed Doubles
Holly Drew and Sam Newborn beat Dave Forrest and Jackie Rice 6-2, 7-6
