Who needed Aintree? Penzance had the Grand National!

Penzance Tennis Club held a fantastic Race Night on Saturday with exciting horse races and lots of laughs and fun for all.  The “owners” had invented some wonderful names for their horses, and the winning owner of each race was presented with a bottle of bubbly.  We can’t thank Martin Brockman and Elaine Trethowan enough, as the organisation was seamless with a big screen showing each race, and an exciting commentary to involve everyone in the atmosphere.  Betting was brisk, with the winners celebrating, especially when one lucky punter won at odds of 18 to 1! Jackie Rice and Dawn Roberts ran the raffle and everyone enjoyed a delicious buffet. Thanks to Sue Nash and Des Hosken for running the bar and keeping everyone supplied with lubrication to help with the cheers! The evening concluded with Mara Forrest updating the Court Renewal Fund monitor, by adding 5 more balls, two of which went into the thousands! This celebrated the success of the recent auction, and since January £2,700 has been raised. The Race Night adds another £444 to the fund taking us over £3000! Thank you to all our volunteers, the fund raising sub committee and of course to Martin Brockman for a fantastic night! Mara Forrest adding more balls to the Fund Raising Monitor Who needed Aintree?
