After 2 years absence due to Covid, it was great to see so many mixed pairs from far and wide gathered at Penzance Tennis Club on Sunday 17th October for the 31st Penzance Vets Open.

The warm autumn sunshine provided perfect conditions for exciting tennis as the entrants were split into 5 groups during the early stages of the competition, with the top 8 pairings progressing to the quarter finals.

The close fought semis saw Amelia Kitchen & Allan Hampshire (Penzance) lose to Cairine Edwards & Ian Lovering (St Agnes), whilst Flora Gomez & Claudio Domizi (Penzance) triumphed against Sallyann Homer & Wayne Newlands (St Agnes).

The final proved to be an exhilarating encounter, giving the many spectators an exciting game to watch, with Flora Gomez & Claudio Domizi coming out on top against Cairine Edwards & Ian Lovering, winning 6-2 to take the Cornish Locksmiths Trophy.

Penzance Tennis Club would especially like to thank competition organiser Di Hillage who ran the day so efficiently, Angela Tresidder for her valuable help keeping track of all the scores, Cornish Locksmiths for their continued support and to the ‘First Service Cafe’ for keeping everyone fed and watered.

Penzance Vets Open will return to its usual spring schedule for 2022, so keep an eye out for details and we look forward to welcoming you back …we’ve already booked the weather!
